Bench and rip saws: check guards and lock-out

What happened: In May 2026 a worker's hand was partly amputated on an auto-feed rip saw. The investigation is ongoing.

Do this month:

  • Check the hood guard, riving knife and lower-blade guard on every saw.
  • Guard drives, nip points and the in-feed hob.
  • Put emergency stops within reach of both the operator and the tail-out worker.
  • Lock out before clearing jams or cleaning.
  • Train operators on the manufacturer's instructions, and record the training.
